Our Mission

At Health Literacy Now, we help healthcare organisations communicate clearly so everyone can understand and access health information. We promote inclusive practices that respect cultural, linguistic, and educational differences. Through training, consultancy, and content writing, we improve health literacy across communities. Our goal is to make health literacy a standard part of care, empowering people to manage their health with confidence.

Founder & CEO 

Wendy O’Dea - RN, BSci(NSG)General, GradCertCancer, MNADVPRAC-HPE, MICDA 

Wendy is the Founder, CEO and lead consultant of Health Literacy Now. As a registered nurse, Wendy brings over 20 years of clinical experience in public and private healthcare, and has extensive experience working within patient organisations. With a strong background in haematology, oncology, education, content development, advocacy, management and quality improvement, she now focuses on helping organisations deliver clear, accessible, and actionable health communication that truly connects with patients, professionals, and communities.

Drawing on her extensive qualifications and frontline experience, Wendy offers health literacy consultancy services with deep insight and authenticity. 

A nationally recognised health content writer, Wendy has developed eLearning modules and clinical tools used across Australia, ensuring complex health information is translated into clear, usable content aligned with universal health literacy principles.

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, a Graduate Certificate in Cancer Nursing, and a Master’s in Advanced Practice Nursing with a major in Health Professional Education and is a member of the Institute of Community Directors Australia. Wendy also brings additional training in cultural safety, health literacy, and quality improvement. She oversees all Health Literacy Now projects, working collaboratively with consumers and other experts to ensure every resource delivers real-world impact.
